INTERMAIL - INTERECHO - GOLDED - ALLFIX SETUP
The ULTIMATE Point System!
An EXCELLENT HUB System!
Provided by - EZ-SET Creations
Collinsville, IL. 62234-3156
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTICE:
Use this file at your own risk! Neither EZ-SET CREATIONS, A POINTLESS
CONNECTION or it's operators, will be responsible for any damage that
might be incurred, be it loss of information, crashing your system,
even formatting your hard drive <grin>.
I will say however, this has run on MY system for the last several months,
without any problems at all.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
It is presumed you already have a "basic" knowledge of mailers and tossers,
as this is not intended to be a complete setup tutorial for either. This
is just a simple setup for running these very popular programs togather,
as a Point setup or, as a FIDOnet HUB.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROGRAMS USED:
The programs referenced in this document are SHAREWARE, except where noted
and, must be registered to utilize their full potential.
To setup this complete MAILER/TOSSER/READER System, you will need;
(1) Intermail (FIDOnet Mailer v2.29i)
(2) Interecho (Mail tosser for Intermail v1.18)
(3) Golded (Mail Reader v2.50)
(4) Allfix (.TIC File Manager v4.33)
(5) Mren (.MSG Message base packer v2.50) FREEWARE
(6) Qedit (Text Editor - Works with Golded, v4)
(7) ShareSpell (Spell Checker v3.02)
You can use different Editor's ie: Boxer, Aurora, etc., in place of Qedit.
I just find Qedit suits my needs. Same goes for ShareSpell. You can use
whatever spell checker you wish.
These files should be available at most BBS's in your area. If you can't
find them, they may be FREQ'd from 1:2250/24 using the "MAGIC" names listed
at the end of this document.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTORY STRUCTURE and OPERATING SYSTEM:
My system consists of a Cx486DLC/40 (a 386DX40 with the Cyrix Upgrade chip),
with 16mb RAM, DOS 6.22, QEMM 7.04 and DESKView 2.63. This system runs the
MAILER setup described in ths document as well as my full time BBS consisting
of Intermail/Interecho/Wildcat/Allfix.
Since I do a lot of testing of various programs, I have several different
versions of Intermail setup for different purposes. This setup uses the
following directory structure.
C:\ ____ Root Directory
|
|__IM2 <-- Intermail & Interecho Directory
| |
| |_SYSTEM <-- Intermail System Directory
| |_NODELIST <-- Directory for all Nodelists
| |_SECURE <-- Incoming Password Protected Mail/Files
| |_FILES <-- Incoming Mail/Files NOT password protected
| |_PACKETS <-- Outbound Mail for Downlinks/Points
| |_SEMA <-- Intermail Semaphore Directory
| |_NETMAIL <-- Netmail Directory
| |_DUPE <-- Directory for DUPE files found by Interecho
| |
| |_AF <-- Allfix Root Directory
| | |_TEMPLATE <-- Allfix Template Directory
| | |_BILL <-- Allfix Billing Directory
| |
| |_GOLDED <-- Golded Root Directory
| |_TEXT <-- Directory for Messages copied from Golded
| |_FILES <--Directory for UUencoded files
|
|__UTILS <-- Utility Directory, .BAT files, Qedit, SSpell, etc.
|
|__ZIP <-- Directory for all Archive utilities ie: ZIP/RAR/ARJ/etc.
|
|__EP <-- External Protocol Directory
|
|__PCT <-- PCTOOLS Directory
|
|__ECHO <-- Message Directory for .MSG format files
The path in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file is short and to the point <g>;
PATH C:\DOS;C:\;C:\EP;C:\UTILS;C:\ZIP;C:\PCT;
That's it! Only what's necessary and needed. All the environment variables
ie: the SET command, are included in the startup batch file. Look at the
file MAILER.BAT for examples on how to do it. This maximizes the use of
memory on your system.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE SETUP:
OK, 'nuff of the gab, now let's get started.
If you want to take the "easy way out", create the same directories as I
have listed above.
Assuming you already have secured the necessary programs, create your
directory C:\IM2 . Unzip the Intermail archive into an empty temporary
directory, change to that directory and type INSTALL <enter>. Intermail
will move all the necessary files into your newly created C:\IM2 directory.
Print and READ the included documentation!
Once completed, delete the files from your TEMP directory and unzip the
Interecho archive into the TEMP directory. Change to the TEMP directory and
type INSTALL <enter>. That will move the necessary files into your C:\IM2
directory. You can now delete the files in your TEMP directory.
Print and READ the included documentation!
Now, change to your C:\IM2 directory and type IMSETUP <enter>. That will
bring up the Intermail Setup program. All you really need to do is follow
the prompts and enter the information requested. Help is always available
via the F1 key.
Unzip the file SYSTEM (included in this archive, into your C:\IM2\SYSTEM
directory then change to your C:\IM2 directory and type IESETUP <enter>.
This will bring up the Interecho Setup Program. As with the IMSETUP, just
follow the prompts and enter the requested information. Once you have
completed the INTERECHO setup, copy the AREAS.BBS file from your C:\IM2\SYSTEM
directory to your C:\ECHO directory so GOLDED will be able to read it.
The most common problem is incorrect or missing directories. Please check
and re-check your setup to be sure all is correct.
You will have to edit the ROUTE.IM, MAGIC.LST and all the .BAT files to
suit your system.
Next, while in your C:\IM2 directory, create two more directories ie:
C:\> MD C:\IM2\GOLDED and C:\> MD C:\IM2\AF
Unzip the archive AFIX433.ZIP into your C:\IM2\AF directory.
Unzip the ALLFIX archive into your C:\IM2\AF directory print out all the
.TXT files. Use these as a guide to setting up your copy of ALLFIX.
From within the C:\IM2\AF directory, type ASETUP <enter> to enter the
Allfix Setup program. Just "fill in the blanks", using the supplied text
files as a guide. You did print them, didn't you?
While in the C:\IM2\AF directory, create at least, the template directory;
C:\> MD C:\IM2\AF\TEMPLATE
Then unzip the archive TEMPLATE.ZIP into your newly created directory. These
are the template files that Allfix will use for your File Announcements,
Comments, etc. They can be edited to suit your system from the UTILITIES
section in ASETUP.
If you are going to be using the Billing feature of Allfix, you will need
to create another directory for your billing files. I use C:\IM2\BILL on
my system.
Unpack the archive GED250.ZIP into your C:\IM2\GOLDED directory then unzip
the archive GOLDED.ZIP (included in this archive) into your C:\IM2\GOLDED
directory. Edit the GOLDED.CFG to suit your system.
If you want your message base scanned for new messages after you exit Golded,
just use the G.BAT as supplied. If you don't want the message base scanned,
just edit the G.BAT to remove the line INTRECHO /SCAN.
Golded is a full featured message editor and, this setup doesn't utilize
it's full potential. Read the GOLDED.DOC and modify your setup to suit
your system and use.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FILE FREQ LIST:
If you need to FREQ any of the listed files from my system, here are the
full file names to use.
AFIX433.ZIP <-- Allfix v4.33 (DOS) (Evaluation version)
GED250.ZIP <-- Golded v2.50 (Shareware)
